EIC Accelerator Fund Pitch Video for Jiva Materials and their revolutionary product Soliboard®.

Jiva Materials, a pioneering company based in Waterlooville, England, is leading the charge in revolutionising the electronics industry with their groundbreaking innovation, Soluboard. In a world where environmental concerns are becoming increasingly critical, Jiva Materials is addressing the pressing issue of electronic waste (e-waste), a global problem that continues to grow at an alarming rate. The company recently submitted a 3-minute video as part of their application for EU funding, showcasing the potential of their sustainable printed circuit board (PCB) solution.

Steve Driver, CEO of Jiva Materials, together with Jack Herring, the company’s Inventor and Founder, highlight the unique advantages of Soluboard. This revolutionary PCB substrate is the first of its kind—fully recyclable, non-toxic, water-soluble, and biodegradable, crafted from natural fibres and a water-soluble polymer. This innovation comes as a much-needed alternative to traditional PCB substrates like FR-4 and CEM-1, which dominate the market but pose significant environmental challenges.

The statistics speak for themselves: Over 62 million tonnes of e-waste are generated annually, with PCBs accounting for a substantial portion. Traditional PCB recycling methods, such as incineration, are not only costly and energy-intensive but also environmentally harmful, resulting in the loss of valuable metals and significant carbon emissions. Soluboard offers a sustainable solution to these issues. It allows for the efficient recovery of metals like copper and gold, significantly reduces plastic waste, and has a 60% lower carbon footprint compared to industry incumbents.

Jiva Materials has developed Soluboard to be fully compatible with standard PCB manufacturing processes, ensuring that it can be easily integrated into existing production lines. The company’s research indicates a growing demand for environmentally friendly materials in the global PCB market, driven by the rise in sectors such as computing, home appliances, LED lighting, and electric vehicles. The feedback from pilot tests with major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) has been overwhelmingly positive, with customers willing to pay a premium for the environmental benefits Soluboard offers.

As Jiva Materials looks to the future, their vision is clear: to become the global leader in sustainable PCB manufacturing. The company’s innovation promises not only to reduce e-waste and lower environmental impact but also to enhance corporate reputation and customer loyalty in line with the growing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements.

Through their EU funding application, Jiva Materials is seeking the support needed to bring Soluboard to a broader market, enabling the electronics industry to make significant strides towards sustainability. The funding will help them further integrate their innovation into the global PCB and electronics sectors, securing environmental, economic, and health benefits for years to come.
